Good response to the first regulars' care table in Freiburg

Aktuelles – 10. February 2020
On the evening of 29 January, the first of hopefully many care regulars' tables took place in Freiburg. Together with church organisations (Betriebsseelsorge, KDA, KAB) and supported by ver.di Südbaden and the Left Party, Care Revolution hosted the event in a pub in Freiburg. We were surprised and delighted by the turnout (almost 40 participants). The really colourful mix was also great: geriatric carers and nurses were represented and, above all, people in a wide variety of care positions and with very different motivations. Professional, voluntary and family carers, residents of facilities, people interested in politics or with a background in nursing science - and some participants combined many of these backgrounds in one person. The first meeting was about getting to know each other and our approaches to the topic in the first place and considering how to proceed. The dialogue in small groups and in relaxed rounds at the end showed once again that people with different care responsibilities understand each other very quickly when they start talking to each other. Unfortunately, they find that this interest is rarely shared by political decision-makers or care organisations. This is why it is now important to achieve continuity in this project after the first exchange and to move from the desire to act to action. To this end, the regulars' table will meet every two months; between these meetings there will be an open working group that will prepare the meetings and also become politically active.
