Demonstration of lights in favour of an immediate ceasefire and peace in the Middle East

More than 150 people responded to our call for a demonstration of lights for an immediate ceasefire and peace in the Middle East on 19 November 2014. This candlelight action, which took place for the second time, was organised by the Freiburg Care Revolution Group together with the Freiburg Peace Forum, the DFG-VK, the Women in Black, the Bonhoeffer Group, the Parents for Future, the Independent Women, the Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW), the VVN-BdA and attac. We are united by the certainty that only an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East can stop the endless suffering of the people in Gaza. We see it as our primary task to persuade the German government to finally join us in calling for a ceasefire and to stop tolerating and financing the bombings.

The relatively quiet demonstration, during which we read out our appeal again at prominent corners but otherwise just walked through the night with our lights, was very well received by both participants and passers-by. For the first time since the coronavirus pandemic, people were happy to accept our leaflets and even approached us to receive one. Many inside and outside the demo thanked us for our commitment. That's really encouraging!
