Event: #BeLikeNina - Nursing staff in Ukraine fight for better working conditions

Aktuelles – 13. March 2024

Online event on Thursday, 11 April, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

It is not only in Germany that the underfunding of the public healthcare system leads to inadequate or inappropriate care for the population and to unacceptable working conditions.

In this country, it is mainly hospital employees who are no longer prepared to accept overwork and underpayment and are fighting back.

In Ukraine, too, the resistance began in a hospital in 2019:

Nursing staff's income is not even enough to pay the rent, let alone live on. Nina Kozlovska is using this hardship to publicise her situation. Other nurses took up this initiative. A protest movement emerged under #BeLikeNina and the movement developed into a trade union for carers.

Shortly after #BeLikeNina was founded, the activists were confronted with the additional burdens of the coronavirus pandemic, and since February 2022 they have been working under the conditions of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.

Despite this, they have grown and have been able to fight for better working conditions for carers.

We invited two of the initiators of #BeLikeNina , Nina Kozlovska and Oksana Slobodyana, to find out more.

They speak Ukrainian, their contributions will be translated into German.

The event is organised by activists from the Care Revolution network in cooperation with Solidarisch Sorgen e.V.
