Feminist general strike for care work. What can we learn from the strike in the Basque Country in 2023?

On 30 November 2023, a feminist alliance initiated a general strike for a non-profit, solidarity-based care system in the Spanish Basque Country. This was organised in collaboration with Basque trade unions, including over 1,500 works councils who called for the strike. On the day of the strike, there were demonstrations and actions organised by district committees, as well as strikes in educational establishments and car factories, for example.

We would like to talk to Raul Zelik about what the aims of the strike were, how this organisation was successful, what the strike changed and what we can learn for our commitment here.

The speaker: Raul Zelik is a journalist, long-time activist and expert on social movements in the Basque Country. He reported on the events before and after the strike.
