Invitation to the film: A Day Without Women

29 June 2026, 5 pm in the CA auditorium

We invite you to join us to watch the film “A Day Without Women”, about the 1975 women’s strike in Iceland, and to discuss it afterwards. Childcare and refreshments will be provided afterwards.

What if every woman simply took a day off…

When 90 per cent of Icelandic women walked out of their jobs and left their homes one autumn morning in 1975, refusing to work, cook or look after the children, they brought their country to a standstill and catapulted Iceland to the status of ‘the best place in the world to be a woman’.

Told for the first time by the women themselves and brought to life with playful animations, A DAY WITHOUT WOMEN is subversive and unexpectedly funny. “We loved our chauvinist pigs,” recalls one of the activists, “we just wanted to change them a little!” The film is being released in 2025 to mark the 50th anniversary of the strike, and with its message about women’s collective power to change their society, it encourages us to rethink what is possible.
