Crisis of social reproduction - Care revolution as a perspective

Kalender-Icon 25. February 2016
Gabriele Winker at the invitation of the Marxist Evening School (MASCH) BremenMany people reach the limits of their strength when trying to take good care of themselves and others. What appears to be an individual failure in the face of everyday demands is the result of a crisis of social reproduction: the primacy of profit maximisation and cost reduction is increasingly calling into question the reproduction of labour power. The fact that the over-accumulation crisis and its neoliberal treatment undermine people's ability to care and look after themselves thus itself becomes a moment of crisis for capital, which is dependent on a qualified, healthy and motivated labour force. Gabriele Winker shows how everyday human suffering is linked to the systemic inability of capitalism to comprehensively secure the human needs of life. She counters this with the transformation strategy of the Care Revolution - based on feminist-Marxist insights - which develops steps towards a society of solidarity based on the everyday experiences of many people. http://www.masch-bremen.de
