With care struggles towards a society based on solidarity

Kalender-Icon 10. November 2021
You are cordially invited to a discussion event organised by the Care Revolution Network on 10 November 2021 from 19:00 - 21:00 via ZoomPeople in caring relationships are under pressure. Whether caring relatives, single parents or employees in hospitals: Under the combined demands of care work in the family, paid work - including and especially in care facilities - and self-care, many reach their limits. There is a lack of time and support to do this important work well, and the fact that this lack is systemic is nothing new. Healthcare is a cost factor, care homes taken over by care corporations serve to distribute profits, family work is squeezed into the diminishing and increasingly chopped up remaining time alongside gainful employment, and those who are neither able to work nor have money are considered ballast. It is therefore clear that in order to change these conditions, we need to change society and make it more caring and solidary. Many struggles and lived alternatives, including in the area of care relationships, are striving in precisely this direction. The successful strike at Charité and Vivantes in Berlin, care commons such as polyclinics and local authorities and the first steps towards reducing paid working hours are examples of this. At the same time, they point to post-growth perspectives, to what is really important, and they are already creating solidarity in their practices. Together with activists from these areas, we would like to consider where a trend-setting practice of solidarity is already emerging in the current struggles and experiments and how the various strands can be brought together. Discussion with:Silvia Habekost, nurse and trade unionist, Berlin hospital movementFriederike Habermann, activist and author, Netzwerk Ökonomischer WandelSophia Wagner, active with ATTAC, AG ArbeitFairTeilen Moderator: Jette Hausotter, Netzwerk Care Revolution The event will take place online.
