Many people are unable to combine the demands of everyday life and the necessary self-care as well as caring for children, relatives or friends in need of support with their ideas of a good life. What appears to be an individual failure in the face of everyday demands is a consequence of the devaluation of care work under capitalism and neoliberal crisis management. And this also has an impact on working conditions in the so-called care professions (nursing, education, social work, etc.) and the organisation of the social infrastructure. However, there are also initiatives and debates that counteract this: For example, at the Charité hospital in Berlin, where a successful industrial action was taken for improved working conditions. In the form of support through neighbourhood-based self-help or the project to establish a solidarity-based polyclinic in Hamburg. Or with the Care Revolution network, which is striving for a fundamental reassessment and reorganisation of care work, which has so far been predominantly unpaid or poorly paid by women. At this event, we would like to discuss forms of organisation, practical experiences and various political strategies with various initiatives. Where do we see common ground, what are the starting points for arguing for a re-evaluation of care work, what do feminist perspectives look like and what can we learn from each other? We have invited the following speakers for this purpose:
  • Jette Hausotter (AK Reproduktion, co-circle of the Care Revolution network)
  • Jannike Hansen (Wilhelmsburg Solidarisch)
  • Julia Dück (Alliance "Berliners for more staff in hospitals")
  • Anh-Thy Nguyen (Hamburg Polyclinic)
