Because more daycare centre staff is better for everyone - strike and strike support at Berlin's daycare centres

If you are constantly overworked at work, you lose the joy of working, become ill and it also has a negative impact on your work results. This, in turn, impacts on job satisfaction and health... This vicious circle is familiar from many companies, especially in the care infrastructure, and also harms the users of the facilities. The educational staff at the state of Berlin's own daycare centres have now decided to pull the ripcord: Since June, they have been on and off strike in favour of a collective agreement on pedagogical quality and relief. As in the nursing wards of many large hospitals, the aim is to achieve a better quality of work and care, primarily through improved staffing levels - in the interests of employees, children and parents.

The strikers are coming under massive pressure from politicians and management and the support of parents must also be fought for. It is undoubtedly true that parents and children are being put under pressure by the industrial action. This is precisely why broad support for the strike is important in order to achieve success quickly. After all, the strike is taking place because nothing will change without it. The other side is not yet moving. The industrial action must be intensified after the summer holidays; on the day of the warning strike on 19 September, the union held a ballot on an indefinite strike from 30 September: 91.7% support at ver.di, 82% at GEW!

Updated: This strike was prohibited by the labour court in the first instance on 27 September by means of a temporary injunction. This means that the strike cannot start on 30 September as planned, but the union will of course appeal against the judgement. This is not the end of the industrial action!

In an online event , we would like to talk to striking employees and supporters from the solidarity-based parents' initiative Einhorn sucht Bildung about the current situation, prospects and possibilities for supporting the strike. Because support is even more necessary in the current situation, we invite you to join us: Take the opportunity to talk directly to the activists!

The date: 01 October, 18:30 - 19:30.
