As reported on this page: In Germany, the care of the very elderly is largely provided by family members – usually unpaid, in a private setting and often alongside paid work and family commitments. However, this system is under considerable strain: whilst the proportion of people in society requiring care is constantly rising, the number of family members who have the time and money to look after them is falling.

In his study, Dr Tobias Dumschat asked working-age family carers to assess what impact an unconditional basic income of 1,500 euros would have on their ability to cope with the day-to-day demands of caregiving.
