1 May - Invisible Labour Day

Numerous problems relating to care have finally been recognised in the public and political debate. It is now impossible to overlook: Care is not a private matter, but a socially necessary task. However, the huge proportion of care that is carried out in private households is rarely perceived as work, let alone recognised. The importance of care work is obvious - and yet the framework conditions are not improving.

We, an action group from the cross-national initiative Care.Macht.Mehr, want to draw attention to the socially invisible part of care work, deliberately on 1 May as Labour Day.

The years of the pandemic have shown that care work is essential. Today, Care.Macht.Mehr reminds us how everyday care for others holds our society together - invisible, unpaid and irreplaceable.
