1 May - Rally 2023 in Heidelberg - Motto "Unbroken solidarity"

The Care Revolution Rhein Neckar network had a stand at the 1 May rally. With information material and information boards, it was important for us to show the connection between care, climate and peace.

Caring, providing, looking after - care activities/care work - encompass all areas of life, all life.

Humanity - as Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, put it - is waging a war against nature. "Planet Earth is being destroyed. ... This is suicidal. Nature is striking back - and it is already doing so with increasing ferocity. ... The effects of climate change are hitting the world's most vulnerable people the hardest. Those who have done the least to create the problem are suffering the most." Impoverishment, new famines, an increase in migration, social unrest and conflicts/further wars over resources are inevitable.

Against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, global military spending rose to a new record high in 2022 (Sipri 2023). The horrendous sums that flow into armaments are lacking in the areas of education, social affairs, climate protection and health. Arms deliveries to war and crisis zones, militarisation and the neglect of diplomacy/negotiations in the search and struggle for solutions bring with them even more suffering, death, impoverishment, flight and displacement, as well as a brutalisation of people/societies.

There were lively discussions. The paper "Solidarity instead of competition" from the Care Climate Revolution working group met with interest. The attempt and the necessity to "think together" the different areas, to bring them together again and again, met with approval.
