On 8 March, "Platz für Sorge" was also launched in Erlangen

Aktuelles – 27. March 2021
On the international feminist day of struggle, the 8 March Erlangen group organised a rally on the central Schlossplatz square on the topic of "Space for Care". Around 300 people took part in the rally. Various activists from Erlangen took part and contributed their specific perspectives on the topic of paid and unpaid care work through their speeches, including the Frauenennotruf, a counselling centre for girls and women who have experienced violence, the Sozialistische Jugend Deutschlands - die Falken, Fridays for Future, the Amnesty International university group, the International Women's Group, a feminist activist from Turkey, the Mütter- und Familientreff and a birth companion. The situation of FLINTA (short for women, lesbians, inter-, non-binary, trans and agender people) has been exacerbated on many levels by the pandemic, as has the situation of refugees, undocumented migrants and people with migrant backgrounds. As the majority of unpaid care work in the private sphere is still carried out by FLINTA people, they bear the additional burden of lockdown, home office, home schooling, childcare and social isolation. In addition, domestic violence by men, to which FLINTA and children are exposed, has increased massively since the pandemic. Our demands on 8 March at the Square for Care: - Recognition and appreciation of all work, whether domestic and childcare work or paid work - Equal pay for care professions and a non-discriminatory atmosphere for FLINTA in the workplace - We demand an end to all violence against FLINTA people. We will no longer accept that this violence is often trivialised as a so-called family tragedy or relationship drama, but demand that it be named for what it is: gender-based violence! - We demand a world in which everyone* can live a self-determined life free from discrimination, regardless of origin or skin colour. For us, a place for care means creating a space for needs, for participation and for demands! Two weeks later, we organised an online meeting with all those interested in the campaign, with the long-term goal of building a broad network of actors in Erlangen. We are excited to see how things will continue!
