Care - Climate - Revolution working group

Aktuelles – 26. February 2022
Initiated by the Freiburg Care Revolution group, a supra-regional working group has been formed to combine our care-political commitment with the urgent need to make progress in the fight against the climate catastrophe. Our starting point is that the capitalist mode of production, which cannot do without competition and growth, destroys ecological cycles as much as it impairs caring relationships. Unpaid care work in particular, like the wealth of non-human nature, is disregarded and overused as a free, ever-present reservoir that needs no consideration. We are convinced that caring for one another and caring for the climate belong together and that we have developed proposals as part of Care Revolution that also make sense in the context of the climate justice movement: Reducing paid work, supporting caring relationships by expanding the social infrastructure, democratisation and socialisation, promoting a caring and sharing relationship with one another - all of this would simultaneously improve the situation of people in caring relationships and contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The invitation to the working group, which elaborates on these ideas, can be found here. In the working group, we want to consider how we can bring our care issues into the climate justice movement and how we can take the topic of 'climate' into account in our care policy considerations. In doing so, we want to sharpen our analyses, look for helpful strategies and exchange ideas for action. As a first result, we have developed a speech text and a flyer that can be used to establish the connection between care and climate in the various cities from which people are involved in the working group - this makes sense for us given the proximity of the feminist day of struggle on 8 March and the climate strike on 25 March. You can find the flyer here and we would be delighted if the working group grows! If you are interested in joining us, please write to Gabriele at: winker@tuhh.de
