Declaration by Care Revolution Rhein-Main on the International Day of Care Work and Assistance

Aktuelles – 30. October 2025

In 2023, the UN General Assembly decided to declare 29 October the International Day of Care Work and Assistance. At a time when our welfare state is being systematically cut back on the pretext of preserving society's prosperity, we firmly support the United Nations' call to promote the fundamental importance of care and assistance for the well-being of all people in our country and worldwide on 29 October.

And so we demand:

  • Recognition of care work as the basis of human coexistence

  • Investment in the necessary infrastructure of public services of general interest

  • Introduction of comprehensive care insurance

  • Introduction of a basic income for children

  • Fairer recognition of child-raising and care periods for pension entitlements in order to avoid old-age poverty for those responsible for care.

  • Reform of the current tax policy, which exacerbates social inequality, towards tax justice in line with the values of democracy.

It is high time that this fundamental economic sector was recognised in Germany, taken seriously and given the recognition it deserves in society and politics.
