Room for care - Tübingen: a huge mountain of care

Aktuelles – 10. March 2021
On 7 March, we designed a station as part of a walking route in Tübingen in which various queer feminist groups were involved: We renamed Europaplatz "Platz für Sorge" (Square for Care) and set up a hands-on stand where passers-by could paint their respective care topic on a prepared cardboard box. These "care packages" were then piled up to form a huge mountain of care work. The level of participation was impressive, as was the range of topics: from "promised more staff - nothing has happened yet" from the context of the women's emergency call projects to "phone your mum for an hour a day", "sex work" and "emotional work in communities" and "keeping an eye on all appointments". For a street campaign, there were unusually intensive discussions on the various aspects of care, lots of thought-provoking ideas, many aha moments, lots of indignation with regard to the economy and politics, and lots of disappointment with the green state government. The campaign also reached very different people: Women* who spontaneously had a lot to say and quickly picked up a paintbrush to publish their care issues, others who only became aware of how much care work they do on an ongoing basis during the conversation, others who are already involved in political activities for a different care policy and economy and for whom it was already clear before the action that a good life for all is only possible with broad social solidarity. And we need a care revolution! At some point we ran out of boxes - no wonder. In a real care economy, it would probably only be half the size. Or it would be the same size, but would stand for recognition, fair distribution, remuneration and being seen! As long as this is not the case, our demands, which we also have on the flyer, remain: + a good life for all, based on solidarity and gender equality! + needs-based services of general interest! + no profit logic in the healthcare system - away with the flat rate system - a publicly owned healthcare system! + Access to health services and healthy living conditions for all + Decentralised accommodation for refugees and homeless people - also as better protection against corona + No stigmatisation of sex workers + Space for care - Care Revolution!
