A feminist strike against unpaid care work?
A discussion with activists from the Zurich Feminist Strike Collective about the campaign for the 2027 Care Strike in Switzerland

With over half a million participants, the 2019 feminist strike in Switzerland was the largest social mobilisation in Swiss history since the general strike of 1918. Since then, the feminist strike collectives have successfully organised mass demonstrations every 14 June.
Now, the feminist strike collectives, together with the trade unions, have announced a nationwide care strike for 2027. The planned strike is a feminist response to the worsening care crisis – and at the same time an expression of a strategic reorientation of the movement. To move closer to a redistribution of time, money and respect, and the overthrow of patriarchy and capitalism, we must strike in a feminist way.
In 2026, the focus was on unpaid care work. How can we go on strike over this, and what forms of strike took place on 14 June?
In this workshop, activists from the Zurich Strike Collective will share insights into their strategies and aim to clarify the basics: what do we actually mean by care work and feminist strikes?
Together, we will discuss which strategies will lead us to a strong care strike in 2027 and beyond. We will discuss questions such as: How do we, as a strike collective, mobilise and organise (paid and unpaid) industrial action? Are we aiming for a political or economic strike?

The event is organised by the Feminist/Care Strike Working Group within the Care Revolution network.
