On the so-called Prostitutes Protection Act and the situation of sex workers' rights

Kalender-Icon 10. March 2016
on 10 March 2016 at 8 pm at Cafe Cralle, Hochstädter Str.10a, 13347 Berlin-Wedding At the beginning of February, the grand coalition agreed on a compromise for its so-called prostitute "protection" law. It is soon to be passed in the Bundestag. The law will significantly restrict the rights of sex workers. Among other things, compulsory health counselling and compulsory registration as a sex worker are to be introduced. No other profession is subject to such measures. The law encroaches heavily on the fundamental rights of sex workers and leads to an enormous restriction of their professional freedom. Social stigmatisation remains high and is exacerbated by such laws. Sex workers reject the restrictive legislative proposal and emphasise the negative consequences it would have for their everyday lives. This is why sex workers need our solidarity both in the fight against the planned law and against devaluations and restrictions in general. We invite you to the short film "fragments of ava" and an input on the "Law on the regulation of the prostitution industry and the protection of persons working in prostitution". In dialogue with each other, we want to consider together what solidarity-based support for sex workers and joint struggles could look like. The event is organised by move e.V. and Netzwerk Care Revoluion Regionalgruppe Berlin/Brandenburg. The speakers are Stephanie Klee and Do Lindenberg from move e.V. and Ann Wiesental from Netzwerk Care Revoluion. There will be whispered translation into English. The organisers reserve the right to make use of their domiciliary rights in the event of discriminatory behaviour against sex workers. The Berlin/Brandenburg regional group of the Care Revolution network calls on everyone to support sex workers in the fight for their rights and to demonstrate together with them on 6 March 2016. Here is the call for the demonstration on International Women's* Struggle Day on 6 March 2016 with the sex workers' block from move e.V.: Sex workers' rights are human rights - against transphobia, stigma and discrimination! We sex workers and sympathisers support the call for the nationwide demonstration on International Women's* Struggle Day. In the tradition of International Women's Day, we will be taking part in the demonstration in our own strong block and representing our demands:
  • for our basic right to work like other self-employed and freelance workers,
  • against further discrimination and sigmaisation and against a broad state registration of sex workers with MANDATORY counselling,
  • against our TOTAL surveillance and the lack of data protection.
We demand rights, respect, empowerment and professionalisation.
