Berlin

Unfortunately, the Berlin regional group is currently inactive. We are happy to bring interested parties together for a new start. Write to us at koordination@care-revolution.org! Here, perhaps also as a suggestion, you will find a documentation of their activities.

Previous focal points and actions

  • In 2023, on 8 March, we took part in the demo "Feminist - Solidarity - Trade Union!" with a speech. The demo was organised by feminist and trade union groups and focused, among other things, on the wage disputes in the public sector and the state-owned hospitals(Mobi video).

  • In 2022, we co-organised the rally "an CARE DENKEN - Kämpfe vereinen, Überlastung beenden!" on 8 March 2022, followed by a bicycle demo to the large FLINTA* demo, and in May 2022 we took part in the "Kongress der Sorge" at Berlin's Hebbel am Ufer theatre. In autumn, we were part of the Berlin Redistribute alliance and, together with other groups, organised a loud and visible care block at the large demonstration on 12 November 2022(video clip).

  • In 2021, we co-initiated the Berlin alliance "Platz für Sorge Berlin" and organised a rally in Neukölln in September 2021 at "Jenny-Marx-Platz-für-Sorge" (otherwise Karl-Marx-Platz) with a colourful programme of information and protest contributions from various care areas. A review of the nationwide campaign can be found here. In 2021, we also showed solidarity with struggles for work and redistribution, especially with the struggles of Berlin hospital workers.

  • In 2020, we organised an action workshop for a caring future as part of Wandelwoche Berlin.

  • In 2018/2019, we campaigned to make unpaid care work more visible. To this end, we joined forces with other groups to organise actions for the feminist strike on 8 March 2019 and on Care Day on 12 May 2019. On 6 April 2018, we welcomed Arnold Schnittger and his son Nico with a rally in front of the Federal Ministry of Health in Berlin. Arnold had announced in an open letter: Mr Spahn, we need to talk! Together with other initiatives, we protested against the care crisis in the healthcare system and, in particular, the lack of support for family carers.

  • We took a break in 2017.

  • In 2016, we took part in the protests against the Prostitutes Protection Act. We wrote a statement on this topic and held an event with a cultural programme on the care work areas of sex work and 24-hour care. The statement is still a basic principle of our regional group today. You can find it here. We also took part in the protests organised by assistance workers to accompany the negotiations between the Berlin Senate, the funding bodies and employers on the funding of assistance companies and support the demand for a Berlin collective agreement for assistance companies.

  • Another reason for protests in 2015 and 2016 was the introduction of flat rates for the financing of hospitals (DRG, Diagnosis Related Groups) and psychiatric wards (PEPP, flat-rate remuneration system for psychiatry and psychosomatics).

  • In 2015, we took part in activities organised by the Berlin Alliance for More Hospital Staff in support of the strike at Charité Hospital. This successful campaign continued at the Vivantes clinics in 2016. The first week of action took place in February.

  • In 2014, we organised a Care Revolution action day in public spaces as part of the Blockupy action week in May.
