1 May - Day of invisible work(ers) too

Aktuelles – 30. April 2026

In the labour movement, 1 May is celebrated as Labour Day or the day of struggle of the working class. Since the Care Revolution network was founded in 2014, network members have also regularly gone outside on this day with banners, flyers and stands. It is repeatedly referred to as the Day of Invisible Labour, and therefore also the Day of Invisible Workers. This is because care workers, especially those who are unpaid in families, in social networks or in "honorary" positions, and still in precarious or irregular employment, continue to be overlooked when people talk about the working class, workers' struggles and workers' solidarity. But then the solidarity we celebrate on 1 May is only half solidarity, an incomplete solidarity. That is why this article by Matthias Neumann attempts to shed a little more light on "invisible" care work: What is the state of it in 2026, how does it contribute to the burden on workers:inside and how are these burdens distributed?
