12 May 2019 - Day of Care in Berlin

Aktuelles – 28. August 2019 – Action
On 12 May 2015, we took part in the "Walk of Care"demonstration with a performance together with the AG Gesundheit of the Interventionist Left Berlin and the Berlin unemployed initiative BASTA!Performance 12-05-2019 (International care day) from Care Revolution on Vimeo.

The text of the action in German and English:

Care work: essential, unseen, unpaid.Burden to the point of overload is an everyday reality for many Unpaid care work made visible! Cutbacks, privatisation and profit-orientation in the care sector undermine the working conditions of employees in hospitals and care facilities. For patients or residents of care facilities, this means a deterioration in care. This affects us all! Shortcomings in public care also cause additional stress in the family and private sphere. This leads to an increase in unpaid care work and burdens at home. If you are still discharged from hospital in need of care, who cleans at home? Who cooks? Who looks after the pet? Who does the shopping? Who will look after the children and relatives you normally look after? Will you be able to look after your home or will you need to be looked after by others?

Making unpaid care work visible!

Cuts, privatisations, and mercantilisation in the areas of care undermine the working conditions of the staff at hospitals and nursing homes and worsen the services received by patients and the elderly. That affects us all! Moreover, they also cause an additional burden in the family-private sphere, leading to an increase in unpaid care work at home. If you still need care and are discharged from the hospital, who will clean at home? Who will cook? Who will take care of the pet? How will do the shopping? Who cares for the kids and family members that you normally support? Who will take care of everything? Will you be able to take care of your home, or will you need care from others?
