Care Revolution around the Women*s Strike Day 2019 in Berlin

On 7 March 2019, the day before the Women's Strike 2019, the "Chic Care Catwalk " took place in front of the Federal Ministry of Health in Berlin. The event was organised by an alliance of organisations from the care sector, consisting of Care Revolution Berlin, Frauen*Streik-Komitee Berlin, IL Gesundheits-AG Berlin, BASTA! Unemployed Initiative Berlin, Pflegeazubis vernetzt and people from the Alliance for More Staff in Hospitals. The action, for which there is a great video here, kicked off Women's Strike Day 2019 in Berlin on Thursday morning. The action was intended to draw attention to the overwork and exploitation of women in low-paid and unpaid care and domestic work. Around a hundred people came to see the catwalk of care work. Many moving speeches were given and creative performances were staged, making visible the otherwise invisible care work that is mainly carried out by women*, the multiple overload, but also our solidarity and commitment. And on behalf of the many people who hardly have the chance to take part in such actions due to their care work, but who nevertheless raise their voices, written complaints of overwork were handed over to the ministry. On 8 March, Care Revolution Berlin was part of the "Care Block" at the Women's* Struggle Day demonstration. Under the slogan "Profits don't care for people", many activists and other people in solidarity took their demands and labour struggles in the health and care sector to the streets. Together with 20,000 other people, the Care Block marched through the centre of Berlin to the final rally in Kreuzberg. This meant that the big Berlin 8 March Women's* Struggle Day demonstration started with twice as many people as in previous years!
