Educational series 'Strong.Feminist. Healthy?' by Paula Panke e.V.

Aktuelles – 11. December 2023

Over 70 organisations and groups are cooperation partners in the Care Revolution network. Paula Panke e.V. in Berlin-Pankow is one of them. Here, the team presents a two-year series of events on the feminist view of health.

Women's bodies and FLINTA* are not treated equally when it comes to health issues. In medical research and therapy, the cis male body is still the norm. Doctors have little training in addressing the specific health needs of LGBTIQ+ patients. There are major gaps in knowledge and uncertainty here. Unfortunately, this also applies to the female body.

The association Paula Panke e.V. with its projects Women's Centre in Berlin-Pankow and Women's Shop in Berlin-Weißensee has therefore launched a two-year educational series in consultation with visitors and women from the association in 2023. Its title: "Strong.Feminist.Healthy? Feminist perspectives on health". The question mark in the title emphasises how questionable and fragile the issue of
fragile the issue of equality is in our society, especially when it comes to health. Because when it comes to health, it is also about precarious working conditions for FLINTA* and BIPoC people, the gender pay gap, the risk of poverty, especially for single parents, and, as a result, poverty in old age. In a neoliberal society that exposes services of general interest to market mechanisms, these are far-reaching aspects for the health and care of the people affected.

In 2023/2024, we will take up many of these topics in events with cooperation partners and make them accessible to a wider audience. In March 2023, there was already an exciting kick-off event with experts and activists from the fields of medical law, pregnancy conflict counselling, anti-racism, financial coaching and precarious work. You can read more about this in this blog post: https://www.paula-panke.de/neue-bildungsreihe-feministische-perspektiven-auf-gesundheit/

In addition to very practical health-oriented offers such as workshops for personal well-being, we have already held a neighbourhood discussion on the topic of femicide. After all, the issue of violence against FLINTA* people also has drastic consequences for their health. There was also a reading from the book "Orgasmic Woman" on the sexuality of people with vulvas and a Paula Talk on the gender-specific causes of addiction in cooperation with Violetta Clean from FrauSuchtZukunft e.V. We look forward to receiving suggestions from the community for events.
