Freiburg appeal "Space for Care" supported by over 45 initiatives

Aktuelles – 22. February 2021 – Action
In Freiburg, 45 initiatives are already supporting the Freiburg appeal "Platz für Sorge". There are regular online meetings. There, feminist groups work together with Solidarity City and other initiatives that advocate for the right to stay and humane living conditions for refugees. Fridays for Future and Extinction Rebellion are also involved, as good framework conditions for successful caring relationships also require ecosystems and material cycles that are not completely destroyed. The alliances that have existed in the city for years are also actively involved, such as the Fair Care Initiative, the Network for a Solidary Healthcare System and the Alliance for Families. The local branch of ver.di is also supporting the appeal and is currently focusing on preparations for 8 March. We want to rename a square the "Square of Care" and give space there to all those who perform extensive care tasks or have high care needs. For example, family carers, parents with disabled children and single parents will use this square to talk about the challenges they face in organising their everyday lives and explain the support they need from the state. Refugees will point out the untenable conditions in the initial reception centres. Both activists fighting for a polyclinic and care workers from hospitals will present their next political steps. At the same time, climate activists will emphasise the huge challenges we are facing. The aim is to make it clear what needs to be done now so that everyone can live well in the future.
